COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Electric Motor Basics for Electricians: Single-Phase and Three-Phase Essentials is a practical course built for working electricians who need to install, verify, and troubleshoot motors with confidence. From service calls in HVAC to wiring pumps, fans, and compressors, you will learn how electric motors turn electrical power into mechanical work and what that means for safe, reliable field decisions.

You will progress from core motor concepts into real jobsite applications, connecting motor behavior to wiring choices, rotation, and correct basic connections for single-phase and three-phase systems. You will learn how to read motor nameplates and ratings so you can select conductors, protection, and controls that match the motor and the load. The course also explains starting methods and inrush, helping you verify what must be checked during start up and what readings are expected when a motor is healthy.

Protection and control are covered in a way that matches everyday electrician tasks. You will understand the distinct roles of overload protection and short-circuit protection, along with sizing concepts that support code-aware, safer installations. You will also learn how contactors, starters, relays, and interlocks work together in motor control circuits, and how to approach common components found on service calls, including capacitors, relays, and starting switches used in single-phase HVAC motors.

Modern motor work often includes VFD and soft starter fundamentals, so this course clarifies what changes in wiring, protection, and testing when variable frequency drives or soft starters are present. You will learn to recognize common motor failure symptoms, connect what you see to likely causes, and follow a safe troubleshooting workflow that reduces downtime and prevents repeat failures.

By the end, you will be ready to handle installation, replacement, and commissioning checks with a methodical approach that helps you get motor jobs right the first time.

SINGLE PHASE 12 HOURS

This module provides the students with practical methods; techniques for applying the motor single phase.

THREE PHASE ESSENTIALS 19 HOURS

When it comes to three phase essentials troubleshoots motors with confidence You will learn to recognize common motor failure symptoms, connect what you see to likely causes, and follow a safe troubleshooting workflow that reduces downtime and prevents repeat failures.
